Medico-legal reports & case chronologies

Medico-legal reports and chronologies

I work with both expert witnesses and solicitors at different stages of medico-legal cases.

For expert witnesses, that usually means proofreading reports or preparing detailed chronologies from full sets of medical records aligned to their area of expertise.

For solicitors, it usually means preparing concise, structured chronologies of medical records to support early-stage case assessment.

How I help expert witnesses

  • Copyediting and proofreading

  • Compiling full chronologies for medico-legal reports, tailored to your area of expertise

  • Fact-checking and consistency checks

You remain the expert.

My role is to make sure your expertise is expressed clearly, accurately and with as little room for misinterpretation as possible.

How I help solicitors and medico-legal teams

I prepare both detailed chronologies for instructed cases and more concise versions for early-case review.

Where a case is still under consideration, I produce concise chronologies of medical records for early-stage case assessment. These give a clear overview of the clinical timeline and highlight any gaps or notable features.

They typically include:

  • a clear, date-ordered outline of clinically relevant events

  • cross-referencing to page numbers and bundle identifiers

  • any gaps or limitations in the available records

The result is a practical starting point for deciding whether to proceed to full expert instruction.

If a case does move forward, it also gives expert witnesses a clear and well-structured starting point for their reports.

Typical documents

  • Medico-legal reports

  • Expert-specific full case chronologies

  • Concise case chronologies

  • Cover letters

Why external editing matters

When you know a case inside out, it's very easy to read what you meant to say rather than what's actually on the page.

An external editor brings a bit of distance – spotting gaps, inconsistencies and unclear phrasing that familiarity can hide.

The result is documentation that stands up to scrutiny and is easier for solicitors, barristers and courts to follow.

Pricing

I offer flexible pricing depending on the nature and scope of your project – project fee, day rate, hourly rate or per 1,000 words.

Most medico-legal work tends to be priced on a project or hourly basis.

Editing services start from £45. Chronology work typically ranges from £90 to £270, depending on the volume of medical records and level of detail required.
