  • Transcribing of the medical records to compile a chronology that is relevant to the case and your specialist area.

  • A check of every page of the medical records to ensure no crucial detail is missed.

  • Chronology is customised to your preferred tone, style and format.

  • Fully cross-referenced with page numbers so you can easily locate the relevant medical record.

  • Final check-through for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Ideal for expert witnesses who want a second pair of eyes on their chronologies and expert opinions.

What’s included

Ideal for expert witnesses who want to check they haven’t inadvertently introduced any errors and typos when transcribing the medical records.

What’s included

  • A thorough cross-check of the medical records against your chronology, summary and opinion.

  • Notes of any errors in tracked changes.

Copyediting and proofreading

Ideal for expert witnesses who want to ensure clarity, readability and accuracy in their medico-legal reports.

What it involves

  • Spelling and grammar: Checking for and correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.

  • Style consistency: Ensuring consistency in writing style, formatting and language usage throughout the document. This can involve following a specified style guide (e.g. American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style, NICE Style Guide, Oxford Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style).

  • Clarity and readability: Rephrasing sentences and paragraphs to enhance clarity and readability for the intended audience, which may include solicitors, judges, insurance companies, other medical expert witnesses and the claimants/defendants.

  • Word choice: Ensuring appropriate word usage and avoiding ambiguous or incorrect terms.

  • Consistency in terminology: Ensuring that terms are consistently spelt and styled throughout the document.

  • Formatting and layout: Checking the overall formatting of the document, including headings, subheadings, lists and other elements to ensure visual consistency.

  • Citations and references: Reviewing and formatting citations and references consistently.

  • Cross-references: Checking and validating cross-references to other parts of the report.

  • Consistency in language and tone: Maintaining a consistent tone and voice throughout the report, depending on the intended audience and purpose.

Formatting and structural checks

Ideal for expert witnesses who want to focus solely on writing their medico-legal reports, and outsource the formatting, structure and style concerns.

What’s included

A format of your report including:

  • Consistent styling, font size, heading levels, headers and footers, lists and referencing.

  • Table of contents.

  • Page layout and alignment.

  • Organisation into logical sections and subsections.

We can agree a project rate, day rate or hourly rate, or a rate per 1,000 words. Most of my expert-witness clients prefer a project rate or an hourly fee structure.
